Sfakian Pie Festival, Hora Sfakion

Free Sfakian pie and an all-night glenti at Chora Sfakion's new harbour: thin cheese pastry with honey, tsikoudi and live Cretan music.

Once a year the Cultural Association of Hora Sfakion takes over the new harbour and hands out its famous sfakianopita, the paper-thin cheese pie drizzled with honey, for free, washed down with tsikoudi and carried along by live lyra and laouto. It is one of the warmest, most generous nights on the south coast, and the drive down through the Imbros gorge to reach it is spectacular in itself. The date is set by the association close to the time and is not yet fixed for 2026, so treat this as provisional (traditionally the last Saturday of August) and check locally before you travel.
