Christmas Tree Lighting — Platanos, Kissamos

The village tree goes on in Platanos, Kissamos. Free, and the whole village turns out.

The switching on of the village Christmas tree in Platanos, put on by the local residents' association. These are small, warm, entirely unglamorous evenings and they are one of the better ways to see a Cretan village being itself in winter, when the coast has emptied out and the tourist season is a memory. Expect children, sweets, and neighbours who all know each other. Entry is free. The association says the details of the programme are still to be announced, so check nearer the time or contact them directly.
