Shostakovich's second Piano Trio, Medtner's Sonata-Reminiscenza and Mozart's last String Quintet.

The last of the Platanias concerts and the darkest. Shostakovich wrote his second Piano Trio in 1944 in memory of a friend, and it is bleak, sardonic and shattering by turns, here with Veriko Tchumburidze, Ella Van Poucke and Alexei Volodin. Volodin then plays Medtner's Sonata-Reminiscenza alone, a piece that seems to be remembering something it cannot quite reach. Mozart's String Quintet in D, K. 614, his last, sends everyone home lighter. 21:00, €15.
