Cretan Night at Meterizi, Theriso — Charkiolakis & Koudoumogiannakis

Sunday lunch turns into a Cretan glenti up in Theriso: lyra, lute and voices from 14:00 at Meterizi.

Theriso is the mountain village a short, winding drive south of Chania town, the one with the gorge, the plane trees and the spring water running through it, best known outside Crete as the birthplace of the 1905 revolt against Ottoman rule. On Sunday 20 September the taverna Meterizi turns its Sunday lunch into a proper glenti: Michalis Charkiolakis and Giorgos Koudoumogiannakis lead on lyra and vocals, backed by lute, guitar and percussion, from 14:00. It's the kind of afternoon that starts as a family meal and ends with everyone up dancing between the tables. Reservations go through the venue.
