Cretan Panigyri at Vamvakopoulo — Petros Maroulis

A five euro Cretan panigyri on the edge of Chania, with Petros Maroulis on the lyra.

The closest thing to a proper village panigyri you can reach without leaving Chania. The Vamvakopoulo cultural association, O Platanos, holds its Cretan night on its own grounds in the western suburbs, with Petros Maroulis leading on the lyra. Entry is five euros, which tells you everything about who this is for: it is the neighbourhood's own night, not an event laid on for anybody. It starts at 20:30 on Saturday 29 August and reservations go through 697 5971021. If you have been meaning to see a real glenti but have not fancied the drive out to Apokoronas or Kissamos, this is the one to take.
