The Trial of Manos Hadjidakis and The Censorship Office
Two one-act satires by the Chania Theatre Friends' Society, at the Cultural Centre on Sun 11 Oct, 21:00. Free entry. In Greek.
The Society of Friends of Theatre of Chania returns with its double bill of one-act plays, staged and adapted by Nasos Athanasopoulos. The Trial of Manos Hadjidakis grows out of a real prank reported in the newspaper Ta Nea on 8 June 1963, when a statue of Truman went up a few metres from the composer's Athens home, and puts Nikos Gatsos, Odysseas Elytis, Vassilis Vassilikos and Hadjidakis himself into a mock courtroom. It is paired with Iakovos Kambanellis's The Censorship Office, where Aristophanes, Aeschylus, Euripides and Sophocles come up against the censor. Entry is free, with an optional contribution to support Kyttaro Chalepas; the performance is in Greek.
