Public Sculpture and Architectural Space: a round table
Sculptors, architects and curators on art in public space, as the Chania Sculpture Symposium nears its end. KAM, Thu 8 Oct, 19:30.
As the 1st Chania Sculpture Symposium heads into its last week in the Park of Peace and Friendship, the Antonia Papatzanaki Museum (MAP) hosts a round table on where contemporary sculpture meets architecture and the public realm: the bond between a work, its place and its public, collective memory, and what sculpture does to a modern city. On the panel are Spyros Kakavas and Amalia Kotsaki of the Technical University of Crete's School of Architecture, art historian and curator Sofia Mavroudi, Dr Nikoleta Tzani of the Larissa Municipal Gallery, and sculptor Giorgos Houliaras, emeritus professor at the Athens School of Fine Arts, with sculptor Antonia Papatzanaki chairing. Free entry, 19:30 to 21:30; pair it with a walk round the symposium pieces in the park.
