Amoutsera to Pachnes, 2,454m — EOS Chania Full-Moon Ascent

A full-moon climb to the highest peak in the White Mountains, sleeping at the summit. Grade 4, EOS Chania.

Pachnes is the roof of western Crete at 2,454 metres, and the mountaineering club climbs it by full moon from Amoutsera above Anopoli in Sfakia, then sleeps on the summit. The club is blunt about the terms: grade 4, two days, and you carry your own overnight kit, so this is not a guided walk with a van at the end. What you get for it is the view at first light across every peak in the range, which is not a thing you can buy from a tour desk. Non-members are welcome. Registration runs 24 to 27 August on the club's site, or until the places go.
