Kalogeros and Sasalos Gorges, Kissamos — EOS Chania Day Hike

Two green Kissamos gorges in one day, walked with the mountaineering club. Nobody puts these on a tour itinerary.

Everyone walks Samaria and Imbros. Almost nobody walks the gorges behind Kissamos, which is exactly why this is worth the early start. Kalogeros and Sasalos sit in the Kissamos hinterland and the club singles out their vegetation: these are shaded, green, water-fed gorges rather than the bare limestone corridors most visitors picture when they hear the word. It is a single day graded 2+, led by Konstantinos Prinolakis, leaving from the clubhouse on Tzanakaki 90. Registration opens on 14 September, which is when the departure time and the price appear. Non-members are welcome, which is the part most people do not realise about this club.
