Volika Refuge, Spathi and Ornio Peaks — EOS Chania Three-Day Traverse

Three days high in the Lefka Ori, sleeping at the Volika and Katsiveli refuges. Grade 4, EOS Chania.

This is the serious end of the Greek Mountaineering Club of Chania's summer programme: three days inside the White Mountains, overnighting at the Volika and Katsiveli refuges and climbing the peaks around them, Spathi and Ornio among them. The club grades it 4, its hardest tier, so it assumes you are fit, properly shod and comfortable with exposure at altitude. Non-members can join EOS activities, which is what makes this worth knowing about: there is no commercial operator selling this route. Registration opens on the club's site on 10 August and closes on the 13th, or earlier if the places fill.
