17th Festival of Flavours & Art, Kissamos

Nine nights of Cretan cooking, wine and live music on the Kissamos waterfront. Free entry, 18:30 to 23:30.

This is the one to drive west for. For the seventeenth year the Kissamos waterfront just west of the municipal stadium fills with cooking pots, wine and lyra players, nightly from 18:30 to 23:30 until Monday 24 August. Entry is free and you pay only for what you eat and drink, which is real Cretan cooking rather than a tourist menu. The music changes every night, so there is a reason to come back more than once. Thursday 20 August is a concert with Konstantinos Kandiros and Eleni Vergadi, Friday 21 August brings Valentino, Saturday 22 August is a Cretan night with Stelios Vamvakas, Sunday 23 August belongs to Ilias Choreftakis with the Kissamos dance society, and it closes on Monday 24 August with a full glenti led by Nikos Gonianakis. Go hungry and go late: nothing really gets going before nine.
