Chestnut Festival — Vlatos, Limni and Elos

Three days of roast chestnuts, Cretan music and village hospitality across Elos, Limni and Vlatos. Free entry.

The chestnut villages of Inachori throw this together every autumn, and it has become the fixture that closes the season in western Kissamos. Elos, Limni and Vlatos share the programme across three days: chestnuts roasted in the open, local wine and raki, tables in the square and Cretan music that runs late. It is organised by the Municipality of Kissamos with the two village communities and the cultural associations, which is to say by the people who live there rather than by anyone selling tickets. Entry is free. It is a long drive from Chania, roughly an hour and a half through the Topolia gorge, so treat it as the whole day out it deserves to be, and go hungry.
