29th Tsikoudia Festival at the Venetian Harbour
A raki still fired up beside the Giali Tzami: free tsikoudia, meze, lyra and dancing. Sat 17 Oct from 19:00, free.
Every autumn the Psiloritis dance group sets up its copper raki still on the harbour square beside the Giali Tzami and shows the city how tsikoudia used to be made in the villages, the kazanema that once turned a neighbourhood still into an all-night glenti. This is the 29th year. It starts at 19:00 on Saturday 17 October, entry is free, and the first warm raki and traditional meze are offered to everyone. Giorgos Triantafyllou on lyra and Manolis Chrysocherakis on laouto play, the Psiloritis dancers are joined by the Kromni Brotherhood of Kalamaria from Thessaloniki, and Zacharenia Boutzouka presents. Come hungry and stay for the dancing.
