Giorgos Daskalakis sings the eve-of-feast glenti for Agios Ioannis Rigologos at Taverna Peroulis, a taverna standing almost alone at Gkionas, far up the wild Rodopou peninsula north of Kolymvari. This is about as remote as the Chania event calendar gets: a chapel, a taverna, and a village association keeping a name-day tradition alive with violin, laouto, guitar and ntaouli from 21:00. Worth the drive out if you want a genuinely local night rather than a resort one, but check the road and book ahead, since the peninsula's tracks are unlit and the taverna is small.
