The Collection — A Guided Tour Towards Happiness (Day 1)

A fake apartment, a live guide and electroacoustic music, inside the Venetian monastery. Free, midday start.

Georges Perec wrote a novel about a young couple slowly drowning in the things they wanted, and this hour-long piece builds that book as a room you can walk through. Anastasia Giamouzi's electroacoustic score runs in three parts while Magda Dimou's installation fills the space with repeated objects, loud colour, posters and projections, and Io Asithianaki works the room as a live guide, pulling stories out of people about the objects they love. It sits inside the old Archaeological Museum, the Venetian monastery of San Francesco on Chalidon, which is a strange and very good place to think about accumulation. The Ministry of Culture is paying, so it is free, but you have to reserve a seat. Note the odd hour: this first showing starts at midday, not in the evening.
