Almost every glenti in Crete happens after dark, which makes this one unusual: it starts at midday on the feast of the Dormition itself, in a tiny plateau village in the Sfakia mountains. Manousos Manouselis and Manolis Chamogiorgakis play, and twenty euros covers a full menu. The road up from Frangokastello is steep, narrow and spectacular, and it is not a drive to do in the dark on the way back, so a lunchtime start is actually the sensible design. Take more water than you think you need.
