Glenti at Kolymvari Harbour — Alexandros Tzanakakis

Cretan music on the harbour front at Kolymvari, on the eve of the Dormition.

Kolymvari's harbour is a short working quay with a handful of tavernas and the Rodopou peninsula going off to the north, and on the eve of the Dormition the football club puts a band on it. Alexandros Tzanakakis is young, plays lyra properly, and brings Kostis Tsichlakis and Giorgos Markakis on laouto plus Thodoris Kotsifakis on daoulaki and askomandoura, the Cretan bagpipe you rarely hear outside a village night. Music from 21:30. The organisers have not published an entry price, so take cash and expect either a small charge on the gate or a contribution for the club. Coming from Platanias it is about twenty minutes west, and the setting, sea on one side and mountain behind, is the reason to go rather than the line-up.
