Dormition Glenti at Kontomari — Stratis Skarakis

Five euros in the village square on the feast of the Dormition, with Stratis Skarakis playing.

Kontomari is a small village just inland from Maleme, and its Dormition night runs in the square for five euros. Stratis Skarakis plays, a musician you may recognise from the Vlatos Jazz programme, which tells you he moves easily between the traditional repertoire and everything around it. Village square glentia are the most approachable version of this whole tradition for a visitor: no ticket to sort out, no menu to commit to, just turn up, buy a drink and stand at the edge until somebody pulls you in.
