Cretan Night at Palailoni — Michalis Koukianakis & Rafail Troulakis
A feast-eve glenti in the hill village of Palailoni above Vamos, violin and laouto, with the meal included in the €8 entry.
Palailoni's own cultural association throws this one on the eve of Agios Ioannis Rigologos, in a small hillside settlement above Vamos that most visitors never pass through. Michalis Koukianakis on violin and Rafail Troulakis on laouto lead, backed by Bambis Gaitanakis on guitar and Theodoris Kotsifakis on percussion and wind instruments. Entry is €8 and, unusually for a village glenti, that includes food, not just a ticket at the door. It starts at 21:00 on Friday 28 August. At 315m up in the Apokoronas hills, Palailoni is worth the drive on a warm evening for the setting alone.
