The eve of the Holy Cross is one of the September feast nights the villages actually keep, and Chorafakia marks it in the yard at Antamoma with a full band rather than a single lyra. Lefteris Mathioudakis sings and plays lyra, Manousos Kostogiannis is on laouto and Anestis Nerantzakis on keyboards, and the billing is Cretan, laiko and island music, so it moves well beyond the strictly traditional as the night goes on. It is a taverna, so eat there: this is a grill house and the food is the reason half the room came. Book on 2821029505, because Akrotiri fills up on a feast night.
