Medea by Euripides — Karyofyllia Karambeti (Night 2)
Second and final Chania night of the summer's biggest tragedy, with Karambeti as Medea. 21:15, €25.
The second and last Chania performance, identical in every respect to the night before, and worth knowing about because the first one is the one that sells first. Karyofyllia Karambeti returns to Medea 29 years after she first played it, in Nikita Milivojević's production for the Lykofos cultural organisation: twelve actors, Reni Pittaki as the Nurse, live music on stage from Dimitris Kamarotos, and a reading that treats Medea as a conscious human being pushed to the edge rather than a monster. It runs 100 minutes with no interval, in Greek. After Chania the tour heads to Heraklion and then back to the mainland, so this is the last western Crete date.
