Great Cretan Glenti at Kontylies — Viglatores Feast Day

The Viglatores association's feast day: a blessing, then Boukhlis and Kourakis on lyra and laouto. €5 in, from 19:00.

The Viglatores traditional association of Chania keeps its own feast day, and it opens with an agiasmos, a blessing, before anyone picks up an instrument. Then Anastasis Boukhlis and Antonis Kourakis play, and the evening turns into the kind of glenti the associations still do far better than any venue programme. Five euros on the door, from 19:00, at the Kontylies Cretan centre. This is a locals' night rather than a visitors' one, which is exactly the reason to go, and it is dancing rather than sitting once the music settles in. Worth ringing ahead at busy times, because the room is not enormous.
