Mikis Theodorakis — The Archive Exhibition at his Family Home

Rare papers from the Theodorakis archive, in the composer's own childhood house. Tuesday mornings, free.

This one is worth the small drive. The exhibition puts rare documents and keepsakes from the Mikis Theodorakis archive inside the house in Galatas where he spent his childhood, which turns a display case of papers into something closer to a visit. It was first assembled in 2005 for his eightieth birthday by the Lilian Voudouri Music Library of Greece and the Friends of Music Society, and Lefteris Lambrakis has re-curated it here. Galatas is the inland village, not the coastal strip, about fifteen minutes south-west of town, and the composer's grave is a short way further on if you want to make a morning of it. Entry is free. The catch is the hours: Tuesdays only, 09:00 to 13:00, though you can arrange another time by phoning 28213 41613 or emailing politismos@chania.gr.
