World Tourism Day 2026 — Sounds of Crete and the Traditional Strata Finale

The Traditional Strata season ends on the Agios Nikolaos bastion at the harbour: Cretan music and every folk association. Monday 19:30.

The Traditional Strata, the weekly procession of Chania's folk associations through the old port, closes its 2026 season on Monday 28 September at 19:30 on the Agios Nikolaos bastion at the Venetian harbour. The mayor, Panagiotis Simandirakis, presents awards to the heads of this year's associations, and because the date is also World Tourism Day the harbour gets a proper send-off: the Chania Cretan music association O Charchalis performs "Sounds of Crete", a programme built around the island's traditional instruments and living musical tradition. Every association that took part in this year's Strata joins in, so it is the whole summer's costumes and dances in one place. If you missed the Tuesday nights, this is the one to catch.
