9th Paleochora Half Marathon

Half marathon, 10k, 5k and a free children's race, all starting and finishing in Paleochora. Eight in the morning, before the heat.

Paleochora is a two-hour drive over the mountains from Chania town, and the running club there has quietly built one of the best small races in Crete. Four events share the morning: the 21.1km at eight, the 10km at nine, the 5km at half past, and a free children's race after that, all starting and finishing in the town itself between its two beaches. Entry runs from eight to fifteen euros and includes chip timing, water on the course, a finisher's medal, a technical shirt and a spread laid on afterwards. October in the south-west is the best running weather of the year, which is the real reason the date sits where it does. Register through the club's own site rather than an aggregator.
