Passe-partout — Where the Stone Sings: From Rizitiko to Minore

Nine women's voices and a four-piece band trace Greek song from Cretan rizitiko to rebetiko, at San Francesco. 21:00 sharp, free.

Passe-partout, a music-theatre group formed in Chania in 2012, brings "Ekei pou i petra tragouda" to the Venetian church of Agios Frangiskos, the former Archaeological Museum, on Thursday 1 and Friday 2 October. It starts from the rizitiko, the spare, deep-voiced song of western Crete, and follows the thread across the Aegean and the Mediterranean through Thrace, Asia Minor, Pontus, Cyprus and the Ionian islands to urban laiko and rebetiko. Nine women sing, with Giannis Giannakakis, Kostas Kechrakos, Giorgos Pogiatzis and Titos Smyrnakis in the band. Entry is free and the poster says 21:00 exactly, so arrive early. It is part of the Region of Crete's Festival of Crete, co-organised with the Chania Ephorate of Antiquities.
