Travelling Through the Myths — Konstantina Peratsaki Mosaics

Mosaics of Minoan myth in the little Venetian church on Splantzia. Free, and open late into the evening.

Konstantina Peratsaki works in stone, coloured glass and beads, and what comes out are mosaics that borrow from Minoan and classical art without turning into museum-shop copies: a ship under full sail, dolphins, octopuses, an olive tree, all built up with real texture and depth. They are hung inside Agios Rokkos, the small Venetian church on the corner of Splantzia square, which is exactly the right amount of room for them. Entry is free. The useful detail is the hours: it opens 11:00 to 14:00 and then again 18:00 to 23:00, so unlike almost every gallery in town you can wander in after dinner. It comes down on 9 August.
