The Fisherman and the Sea Creatures' Post Office: Children's Workshop
A two-hour sea-life craft workshop for 6 to 12 year olds at the Russian Barracks. Sat 24 Oct, 11:00 to 13:00. Book by phone.
A Saturday morning workshop for children aged 6 to 12 at the Rosikos Stratonas, the old Russian Barracks at the top of Meletiou Piga, which the council now runs as its home for Chania's living traditions. It is built around the fisherman's trade: the children hear 'letters' written by sea creatures to humans about what pollution and rubbish are doing to their sea, then turn recycled materials into fish, crabs, turtles and jellyfish of their own. It is led by artist Faidra Traiforou of the duende art studio, the same team behind the council's other heritage workshops this autumn. Places must be booked by phone with the council's Culture Department on 28213 41613, on working days from Monday 19 October, so ring early in the week rather than turning up on the day.
