Ravdoucha is a small hill village above the north-west coast, the sort of place you drive through on the way to somewhere else, and once a year its youth association puts on the night that brings everyone home. Antonis Martsakis is the draw: one of the strongest Cretan voices working, and a name that fills a village square rather than a concert hall. It is the same association and the same performer as last summer, which tells you how well it went. Nothing about this is staged for visitors, which is exactly the point. Go late, expect the music to build slowly, and expect it to be going long past midnight.
