Sinema Xana: Balkanisateur

The Chania Film Festival warms up for its 14th edition with two nights of Greek cinema at the Kipos, and it opens with Sotiris Goritsas's Balkanisateur. Two Greeks cross into a post-1989 Balkans looking to get rich and find something else entirely, in 97 minutes that have aged into one of the sharpest Greek films of the nineties. The Hellenic Film Academy programmes the strand, which is called Sinema Xana, Greek cinema as you have not seen it before. The Kipos is the municipal open-air screen in the Municipal Garden, so bring a layer: late September evenings turn cool once the sun is properly down. General admission is €5, reduced €2 for students, the unemployed and large families.
