Songs without Borders — Ode to Temples, a Free Extra Night at Vlatos Jazz

An extra night slipped into the Vlatos Jazz season, and this one costs nothing: the Region of Crete and the Municipality of Kissamos are paying so the door can stay open. Five players take the 150-year-old stone church for a programme billed as Songs without Borders and Ode to Temples: Charalampos Angelakis on lyra and voice, Eva Kalaitzaki on piano, percussion and voice, Manolis Kalaitzakis on laouto, Katerina Makraki on kanonaki and Stelios Moulakakis on percussion. As at every Vlatos concert there is no amplification, so the instruments sound the way the stone lets them. It sits between the Mozart chamber night and Sunday's rebetiko close, and it is the easiest way into the series if you have never made the drive up into the Kissamos hills.
