Strakastroukes — Dimitris Samolis

A one-man show set in a Cretan village ten minutes before the Easter bells. 70 minutes, €20.

Of everything at the East Moat this month, this is the one most worth a Cretan's attention, because it is set here. Dimitris Samolis wrote and performs it, and it takes place in a Cretan village ten minutes before the Easter bells: Kostantis stands with sweets in one hand and homemade firecrackers in the other, and talks. It is about growing up different in a small place where nobody offers you a hand, and it is funny in the way that only genuinely painful things are. It sold out for three years in Athens purely on word of mouth before Marios Kakoullis's production took it on the road, and this is its first summer out. Seventy minutes, no interval, in Greek. Tickets €20, or €17 for students, unemployed and disabled visitors.
