Traces: thirty years of Joe Chang's animation

Joe Chang's animated shorts from 1996 to 2026, with the man himself for a Q&A after. Sat 31 Oct, 20:00, Cultural Centre.

Joe Chang founded the Animation Department at the China Academy of Art in 2002, after years directing at the National Film Board of Canada, where his first NFB film, The Chinese Violin, came out in 2000. In thirty years he has made 17 artistic shorts, won close to 100 awards and screened at more than 300 festivals, Annecy, Ottawa, Zagreb and Hiroshima among them. Traces gathers representative films from 1996 to 2026, where Eastern philosophy and Western art keep meeting, and he stays for a conversation with the audience afterwards. It runs from 20:00 to 22:00 in Hall B of the Cultural Centre; the festival honours him with its Honorary Lighthouse at the closing ceremony the next morning.
