"Apopse tragoudame" (tonight we sing) is how the FRI art café in Nio Chorio bills this autumn Cretan evening, and it is exactly that kind of night: Ilias Vlamakis on lyra and Dimitris Vlamakis on laouto, a village café full of locals and the songs passed round the tables. Nio Chorio sits in the green foothills of Apokoronas, a short drive inland from Kalyves, and FRI is one of the few places out here that keeps live music going after the summer.
