World Wine Tourism Day at Agia Triada Tzagarolon Monastery, Akrotiri
The Venetian-era monastery on Akrotiri opens its winery for World Wine Tourism Day, free entry. Sun 8 Nov, 20 min from town.
Agia Triada Tzagarolon, the honey-coloured Venetian-era monastery out on Akrotiri, is one of the three Chania wineries in this year's World Wine Tourism Day, when 21 Cretan wineries open to visitors on the same Sunday. It is the easiest of the three to reach from town, about twenty minutes' drive, and the setting alone is worth the trip: the courtyard, the church and the olive groves around it. Visiting hours are 11:00 to 17:00 and entry is free. Dress for a working monastery, shoulders and knees covered.
