World Wine Tourism Day at Karavitakis Winery, Pontikiana

Karavitakis opens its cellar in the hills above Kolymvari for World Wine Tourism Day. Sun 8 Nov, by appointment only.

Every second Sunday of November the wineries of the Wine Roads of Greece open their doors, and this year 21 Cretan wineries take part, three of them in Chania. Karavitakis Vineyards, in Pontikiana in the hills south of Kolymvari, is the one for the west side of the prefecture. One thing to know before you set off: the organisers list Karavitakis as visits by appointment only, so contact the winery to book a slot rather than just turning up. Visiting hours for the day are 11:00 to 17:00 and entry is free. Pair it with lunch in Kolymvari and the coast road home.
