Chaniartoon 2026 — Animation Nights at Cine Kipos

Chania's animation festival takes over the open-air cinema for three free nights, opening with a children's programme.

Chaniartoon is the city's own international comic and animation festival, and for three nights in September it closes the Cine Kipos season by taking over the screen in the Municipal Garden. All three nights are free. The opening night on 18 September is the one for families: a programme of short animation made for children. The two that follow are for older audiences and are both rated 16 plus, the best animated shorts of 2026 on the 19th and a pick of the best of the decade on the 20th. The wider festival, its tenth edition, runs on past these screenings with a comics exhibition, an artist alley, workshops and VR work at other venues around town. Free, outdoors, and the last cinema nights of the summer.
