Cinemas in Chania: Every Screen, Indoor and Open-Air
Every cinema in Chania: the year-round multiplexes Ellinis and Mega Place, plus the open-air summer screens at Kipos and Attikon, with links to what's on now.
Updated
Chania has four working cinemas between them: two indoor multiplexes open all year, and two open-air screens that only run in summer, plus the municipal open-air programme in the Public Garden. The cards above have directions, phone numbers and each one's current programme, here is the fuller picture.
The multiplexes, open all year
Cineplex Ellinis, in the arcade of the Ellinis hotel on Tzanakaki street opposite the Municipal Garden, is Chania's main cinema: five screens showing the usual new releases, evenings from around 8pm. Mega Place, out at Souda, is bigger again: three indoor halls plus bowling and a café, so it works as a whole evening out rather than just a film.
The open-air cinemas, summer only
Chania's real local tradition is watching a film outdoors, and there are three ways to do it in season. The Kipos Open-Air Cinema, the municipal cinema in the Public Garden, runs a summer programme that we track live, so you'll find tonight's schedule further down this page. Cine Attikon, a private open-air cinema on Eleftheriou Venizelou, runs its own summer season, dates move year to year so check its current status before you go. Mega Place also opens a 320-seat open-air screen for summer alongside its indoor halls.
